A delivery driver's note has gone viral after he attempted to hide a huge cardboard box under a customer's doormat - but it was actually the result of a funny exchange and done in jest

A Yodel customer has left people crying with laughter after sharing a video showing the note that dropped through his front door revealing the "safe location" of where his parcel had been left.

The clip begins by reading the delivery form addressed to 'Showbiz Jones' which arrived on Saturday morning, stating: "Sorry I missed you when I came to deliver the parcel."

Underneath the delivery driver has ticked the box to explain the package has been left under the doormat for safe keeping.

The footage then moves to the customer opening his front door to find a huge box standing about three feet high with the doormat left to balance precariously on top - and doing very little to disguise the location of the delivery.

The driver did exactly as he was instructed

It was uploaded to TikTok with the caption 'Sorry they missed me!' along with a laughing emoji and has racked up more than 1.7 million views with people saying the video had "made my day".

However, after the video went viral user @ShowbizJones uploaded a second post to claim the hilarious hiding place was actually the result of a light-hearted exchange between himself and the delivery driver.

He says that the parcel had turned up when he was upstairs and he was slow to get down to open the door, so the driver began writing the 'sorry we missed you' note.

Not wanting to miss the delivery, the customer says he leaned out of a window to ask the Yodel worker to leave "whatever it is" under the doormat.

The driver finished filling out the funny form and left the parcel as instructed, leaving 'Showbiz Jones' in stitches with his sense of humour.

Viewers loved the moment of light relief, with one writing: "Do you think the thief would see it?"

A second replied: "Don't know what's more funny, the video or the laugh."

Another commented: "That is the most discreet place I have ever seen. Haha very funny."
