Yodel hit by delivery backlog in Yorkshire

Local media reports that there have been disruptions in deliveries around Leeds and wider Yorkshire by independent carriers Yodel.

LeedsLive reports that the Yodel Leeds Gildersome depot has a major backlog in deliveries, including many parcels that are on faster (sometimes next-day) delivery.

The news outlet interviewed one customer, ‘Jessica’, who had gone to the depot to collect her parcel in person.

She said: “I went to Yodel to personally collect my parcel as I had paid for next day delivery but it hadn’t arrived.”

“I was at the depot for around an hour waiting for three guys to look for my parcel.”

Jessica reports she saw a ‘huge stack’ of parcels waiting to be delivered at the depot. Customers don’t always see inside depots, especially during the peak delivery season, so this may not tell the full story.

Many other customers have complained about late deliveries on social media, though few blame the drivers – they recognise that this is both the peak season and during the pandemic.

One customer said: “I paid extra for next day delivery, to not get it next day because of this, but I can’t complain at the company as it’s the delivery company’s fault, but they’re understaffed so there’s nothing they can do either. (It’s) a little frustrating.”
Others had even reported order cancellations, as parcels had been lost in transit.

“This is why my order got cancelled,” said one disgruntled customer. “Said it had been lost in transit and now I’ve had to reorder.”

A Yodel spokesperson said: “Due to recent adverse weather conditions across the UK, we are managing a slight disruption to our delivery network in Yorkshire.

“The safe and timely delivery of parcels remains our number one priority and we expect any delays to be resolved in the coming days.

“We do not anticipate any further disruption to our services over the festive period.”

"Employers are always seeking more productivity from workers, without considering the human factor, the worker's age, the weather conditions and the intense heat. We need to intervene before it's too late, reducing working hours and the load carried by workers, because it's impossible to sustain the rhythm they're forced to work at for many years."
