Due to the difficult financial situation and the group layoffs carried out this year, our company cannot afford additional pre-holiday benefits for employees – says Business Insider Polska Justyna Siwek, spokeswoman for Poczta Polska.
This is completely different than two years ago. Then about 80 thousand. people working for Poczta Polska received PLN 800 £150 est) gross. The money was paid out in two installments, in November and December. – Before Christmas, it will be a noticeable addition – then argued the company’s authorities, which allocated nearly PLN 74 million for this benefit.
Polish Post with a big loss last year
Since then, the situation of Poczta Polska has significantly worsened. While in 2019 the Poczta Polska capital group had a net profit of PLN 25.6 million, it was in the pandemic 2020, it recorded a loss of PLN 117.1 million. To improve its results, the company is considering the sale of Bank Pocztowy.
– It’s very sad for the employees. This will certainly cause great dissatisfaction among the crew – these are the reports about the lack of a Christmas bonus in an interview with Business Insider Polska, comments Piotr Moniuszko, chairman of the Free Trade Union of Postal Workers. In his opinion, this is the result of the terrible quality of management and its effects.
– The company is very badly financially, it seems that it does not have any funds that could be allocated for eextra remuneration for employees who will bend over backwards during the holiday season to control the increased number of shipments and to ensure that they arrive on time – says Moniuszko.
At the beginning of the year, the company informed the trade unions operating in it about its intention to carry out group layoffs in the period from June 1 to the end of 2021. At that time, it was said that the reduction of employment was to amount to about two thousand jobs. Ultimately, the layoffs were smaller.
– The scale of layoffs from the initially assumed reduction was limited to only 960 jobs. Changes in the employment structure, resulting from the need to adapt to changes in services, take place, inter alia, through internal recruitment and retraining, Poczta Polska reported at the end of May.
“Solidarity” agreed on the pay rises. Other unions protested
In mid-October, the dispute between “Solidarity” and the management of Poczta Polska, which concerned pay rises, ended. It was agreed that from 1 January 2021 postal workers will earn PLN 250 more gross. Such an increase in the basic salary, taking into account the statutory bonuses, is to translate into an increase in the monthly salary by an average of PLN 338. The increase in remuneration is to apply to all employees of the company covered by the corporate collective labor agreement. From July 1, their payouts will be another PLN 50 gross.
In addition, the management of Poczta Polska announced the payment of a one-time bonus of PLN 500 – on condition that it receives money from the anti-Covid shield.
However, the remaining trade unions operating in the company are not satisfied with the amount of these increases and On October 18, they took to the streets. Post Office Workers’ OPZZ protested at the Ministry of State Assets, a dozen or so other unions, headed by the Free Trade Union of Post Employees, gathered at the company’s headquarters in Warsaw at ul. Spanish families.
There will be no money, there will be packages for children
The lack of a Christmas bonus this year does not mean that none of the Post Office employees will receive anything special before Christmas. – As part of social benefits are undertaken local activities, e.g. purchase of holiday packages for employees’ children or individual purchase of gifts up to specified amounts – says Justyna Siwek.
Families of Poczta Polska employees who find themselves in a difficult life situation can also count on vouchers for shops, household appliances, furniture and toys. The purchase will be financed from the funds raised as part of “Pocztowa Gwiazdki” – a charity project carried out by the “Pocztowy Dar” Foundation and postal workers.
Poczta Polska is the national postal operator with the largest network in the country, comprising 7,600 offices, branches and postal agencies. Employs approx. 80 thousand. employees.

"Employers are always seeking more productivity from workers, without considering the human factor, the worker's age, the weather conditions and the intense heat. We need to intervene before it's too late, reducing working hours and the load carried by workers, because it's impossible to sustain the rhythm they're forced to work at for many years."
