Is this seemingly scattershot approach from RM their attempt at keeping us/cwu off balance??

DSA often makes up a very sizeable chunk of what gets sequenced on wave 1
You'll stil need to prep it in your frame so is it really going to save much time in DOs?

This is a very strange move. As it presently stands RM operate under USO, this move is the total opposite to what the USO means. Obviously RM have leaked or pre-emoted an announcement from the regulator which is due this month. If true it’ll be interesting to see how it’s implemented. At present there doesn’t seem to be any operational way of this being carried out in a correct way. Be interesting to see if this a nationwide initiative or whether it is to ease the burden on extremely rural areas (I’m thinking small Scottish Islands, Isles of Scilly, etc etc) where the cost of getting mail everyday to far flung places can’t be cost effective.

Trying to work out how it is being called a "service"!!!
At a guess, RM will now plan duties based on not going to about 50% of the delivery points each day, so they will add 50-100% extra delivery points to the duty. Then of course their figures will be wrong and the duties will be totally unachievable within the hours. The phrase "mail is down" will be repeated endlessly at any postie who attempts to point out the error.

Try telling companies to send their bills 2 weeks early then because at the moment when your receiving bills its either late or due on the day you receive the letter, councils especially.

Re: New Royal Mail service : The new services will defer the mail until there is another item already being delivered to
I recall reading an article, possibly going back 10 years ago or so, before I joined Royal Mail, which was talking about plans to introduce a service (fee payable), where a working householder could elect to have all their post from the week delivered on the Saturday of that week, when they would be in to receive it.
Did that service ever get off the ground?
If it did, or there were plans to do it, would the items have been held at the Mail Centre, or would they have come out to the Delivery Office daily, and put aside somewhere there, for them to all be delivered on Saturday? Did Royal Mail have technology at that time that could somehow automate that process and if so, is that what they've got in mind now to defer this new category of mail item?

Nothing says vibrant competition like Downstream Access, where you can start up a company called 'The Delivery Group' and then have Royal Mail deliver your contracted letters with your massive logo overshadowing the teeny 'delivered by Royal Mail' mark. DSA was supposed to be a temporary measure to lower the bar to entry for delivery operations, instead it's been a safety net for TNT/Whistl's failures.POSTMAN wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020, 11:30Access mail is the main form of competition in the letters market in the UK and is facilitated by access to Royal Mail’s postal network. This means other bulk mail providers collect mail from businesses and other organisations, sort it and then insert it into Royal Mail’s network for delivery.
Any Questions?
Yeah, how do I get out of this chickenshit outfit?
