Royal Mail has unveiled a set of commemorative stamps to honour the 50 anniversary of the British sitcom Dad's Army.

The stamps feature many of the shows most well-known characters alongside their iconic catchphrases such as "Don't panic" and "We're doomed".

The release of these stamps come amid calls for the Royal Mail to issue a series of stamps to commemorate Brexit.

In January, The Sun launched a campaign to have a series of Brexit stamps released which was backed by foreign secretary Boris Johnson.

He said:

Leaving the European Union will be a monumental moment in British history, so let’s deliver a commemorative stamp that shows the world we’ve got Brexit licked.

Since then, the Royal Mail has maintained that they will not be creating any Brexit stamps (although the Treasury has hinted at the possibility of a special coin) yet the emergence of the Dad's Army stamps and their poignant quotes have gotten people thinking.

In a statement issued to Indy100, a Royal Mail spokesperson said:

The stamps have been issued solely to mark the 50 anniversary of Dad’s Army.

MP's are spending the next two days voting on the EU withdrawal bill and the tabloids are taking it really well.

Incidentally, this wouldn't be the first time that the topic of stamps and Brexit has stirred debate.
