Blackpool man Andrew Corbett retires as a Royal Mail postie after a whopping 53 years of service

Andrew, 69, of Boardman Avenue, put in a whopping 53 years of service, working predominantly as a postman.

He started as a 16 year old back in 1971 and used his first wage to buy a seaon ticket to watch his beloved Blackpool FC, a practice he has kept up ever since.

Andrew had his fair share of scrapes in the job over the years, including hair-raising encounters with dogs chasing him up garden paths!

But his family - wife Lynda and children Charlotte (39), Laura (36) and James (35) have nothing but pride over his remarkably long service record.

Charlotte said: "There can't be many Royal Mail workers who can beat a record of 53 years in the job, it's an amazing amount of time to work for one company.

"He's the same with watching Blackpool - he's totally committed to it."


Upon retiring Andrew gifts from the Royal Mail included £130 cash, a £20 gift card and a Blackpool top.

Lynda has also finally retired from her job as a cleaner at the Air Balloon pub on Squires Gate Lane.

It means the couple, who also have two grandchildren, Isabella (12) and Jack (10) will be able to enjoy retirement together, with a number of cruises planned later in the year.

Congrats to the postie concerned on his well-deserved retirement. While you mention his modest leaving collection/gifts, he does also have his very generous final salary pension scheme by way of reward for his years of service. I’d say he’s done very well and been treasured by RM - and vice versa.
