Hi, the Mount Pleasant bulletin is back... Find below the bulletin of 9 Sept. The back and front pages are attached (with the editorial of this week).
Comments are always welcome!
SAME OLD STORY
These bosses can really make it up.... now they've come up
with a campaign called “Story Change”, which is supposed to
convince us that since the business has "changed", we need
to change... And that they therefore expect us to accept
another round of job cuts and attacks on our Ts&Cs - so they
can cut costs and increase profits... More like “Same Old
Story”! And we've already said very clearly what we think
LOUD AND CLEAR
In fact we've said it twice over. Yes, 97.1% of us voted
against Royal Mail's proposals - and for strike action - in
September 2019. And then we were asked to say it again, for
the sake of union officials, in February this year, when 94.5%
of us confirmed that we hadn't changed our minds! It was still
This dispute has been dragging on now for an entire year.
And in the meantime, management has begun implementing
some of the "changes" which we refused - like all those de
facto job cuts in the form of EVRs! So doesn't this mean us
carrying out our side of the bargain? Which was to "down
tools" and walk out...?
JOINT STATEMENT: SMOKE IT!
Instead top union leader TeePee' is talking... and talking...
He explains in his latest "update video" that he's spent the last
2 weeks on talks (making a "joint" statement!) and he wants
some more as "there are still issues - one of which is pay..."
He did, however, start by saying that the company is in a
serious financial situation and facing challenges... and even
losses - and that “the union is up for” the “changes needed”.
Even those old "revisions"...? Yes, being locked-down with
the bosses for so long makes him speak like one...
THAT'S ALSO “NO”!
But we do agree that we don't want a 3-(or more?) year pay
deal, as RM apparently proposes. Managers might want to
save money/time with a many-years deal, but who can tell
how high our living costs will shoot up next month, let alone in
several years time? We need our pay to cover these, at least
on a yearly basis... In fact, it should catch up every week and
AS IF WE COULDN'T TELL
We've been going through a XmasX3 in terms of the volume
of packets, due to the pandemic - and it hasn't slowed down a
bit! So well done (!) to those managers who now admit that
packet volumes have “vastly increased”... It seems their
observation skills have vastly increased as well! And RM's
HOW MUCH TO BE RELEASED?
We want to know what management is offering for our
freedom from HMP - so quite a few of us have filled in our
EVR preference forms! But we can't ignore the rumours that
they want 100 of us out of here over the next year. When
there is more work, not less? And not just in processing... On
collections and distributions we need more drivers. And in
deliveries, we could do with cutting walks and van drops down
by sharing them among more of us!
We’re saying goodbye to workmates who applied for EVR in
August. Happy release to you all! But we’re not getting our
hopes up that we’ll see replacements for you. And now with
the more EVRs to come, what do managers expect to
happen? That we’ll just pick up these extra jobs? We’re
already doing the job of 4!
WE'RE NOT THAT “JACK”
We're fed up in deliveries - whether EC or W1! More and
more, we’re all having to do everything... Does anyone
remember when “duties” meant something specific? Because
now it just means as much as managers think they can put on
us. We aren’t “Jacks-of-all-trades”, and we certainly aren’t OK
with helping managers clear the work, which is back-logged
due to their refusal to hire more mates!
CHOOSE OPTION A, A or A
We're glad to hear that Romford workers voted to come here.
But managers didn't give them much of an option, did they?
Other than being transferred here, they could choose to move
to the Barking office – but only if the office there was
converted into a Mail Centre... which is a big "if". And the
only other option was to take EVR. RM-style “choices”, as
PS: By the way, is it because Romford mates might come
here that management is offering EVRs? But we could do
with Romford mates AND new recruits!
Managers just can't get over their spying mania! It's not new
that they try to use the PDAs to follow our movements... But if
we don't carry a PDA, some highly motivated managers are
even keen to follow us to the toilets...! Can we please
increase their social distancing to at least 10 metres?
ITS ONE BIG HAZARD
Can any one tell us why bosses are still ignoring safety regs,
when it comes to the construction sites all around HMP?
We've been working (3 years now!) surrounded by trucks and
cranes moving heavy materials around... and we still don't
see the pedestrian/traffic wardens that would make HMP a
(slightly) safer place to work in. Or are MP bosses just
passing the buck to Blue Sky Building or Taylor Wimpey?
Well, we can always wait safely far from the Mount, until they
decide to implement the measures we need!
EVERY LITTLE HELPS!
Taylor Wimpey did make us laugh... On their website they tell
us that care workers will have a “special” 5% discount on the
Postmark flats opposite Phoenix gate - “as a thank you for the
heroic efforts shown by the NHS”! Nice. So now a carer on
an average £8.10/hr will be thankful to know that he/she can
buy a 2 bedroom Postmark flat for “just” £1,278,000. With
such generous discounts, maybe carers can now think of
upgrading to 3 bedrooms?
USPS UNDER ATTACK
Trump's "Postmaster General” is on a mission to run this
unique US public service into the ground (and prevent people
casting postal ballots in time for the November election...!).
Privatisation looms. He's removed 600 sorting machines,
thousands of mailboxes and cut the overtime which, thanks to
job cuts, is the only way the mail gets delivered - so it's piling
up! The US Post has been running for over 200 years: let's
hope US workers begin to fight to prevent its destruction!
