As the title..

Any 5 yr plan update?

Gets bought by a german company. No more letter delivery, as uso is up for review in a couple of years, and they franchise delivery on a postcode basis making 100,000 redundant. :nana

Instead of delivering letters & parcels, we will deliver parcels & letters! :nana

I think it's safe it say by the time those five years are up RM will have changed more radically than anyone ever thought possible. Looks like sequencing of mail is going to be one of the first things to go which none of us saw coming.

To be honest though the quality of the sequencing leaves a lot to be desired of recent. One good thing from dropping sequencing of mail would be that RM couldn't then drag any idiot off the street and get them to prep & deliver a walk. So in one way it is an additional safeguard to our jobs but not indefinitely.

Where do you get that's sequencing will be going? That's the exact opposite of the efficiency they want, it will mean more indoor time needed to prep deliveries with the knock on effect of taking time off the outdoor element. What are they going to do start putting deliveries back in when their whole strategy says they want to slash the number of deliveries?

To be honest, we probably won't get an update on the talks, until the union Pec/Nec elections are finished.

Look on the union board on this forum. Latest RM proposal is to get rid of the CSS machines and change the second lot of mail that currently comes sequenced to just walksorted as we had it previously.

It’s not going as the union have stopped it. There plan was to reduce the number of CSS machines so the ones left would have to do more work. This then has a knock on effect of dispatch times. To try and get the dispatches to leave at a similar time as they do now RM proposed to just walk sort the street wave 2. It’s not happening though

It can't be far off the first month of talks ending now. If no decision is reached it goes to a month of mediation with a third party. Given that the first super hub is in the process of being constructed or set up I don't see much chance of the union being able to stop the new parcel strategy plan. Consensus on this forum seems to be that the union will try to placate us with the 35 hour week. A 35 hour week isn't much use when you still have 40 hours of work to do.

I'm wondering at what point in the decline of letters does it become non viable so UK mail and whistle give up their letter operations and do royal mail have a plan for when it happens :cuppa

RMs priority is packets, parcels, and the more expensive services such as special delivery. RM want to move away from letters & flats as soon as they can.

But you only have to work 35hrs! People just don’t seem to get it do they! They could give you 100hrs worth of work but guess what? You only have to do 35 hrs worth!

You need to raise this with the Union at area level, if it’s a one off due to a machine break down then that can’t be helped but it should not be arriving like that every day
