Hi, find below the Mount Pleasant bulletin of the 10th of April. The entire back and front pages are also attached - Comments welcome!

THEY'RE AT IT AGAIN
We couldn't believe what we saw on the CWU website
about our petty 2% pay 'rise' this month... According to
DGS Terry Pullinger's own special version of maths, we've
had a “7.3 per cent pay rise in the last 12 months” (quoted
verbatim!)... How the hell he gets that number, is anyone's
guess! The 5% pay increase we had in October 2017 was
backdated to April 2017 – over 2018, we got no increase,
and then just 2% this month. Meaning the average pay rise
is barely 2% per year! Very far from TP's magic numbers!

WHEN A PAY RISE ISN'T A PAY RISE
Here in Quadrant, we're meant to consider ourselves 'lucky'
to be offered a 2.6% pay increase from April, and a further
1% increase from October. But why split our pay rise like
this? Well, the union tells us we should consider this a
3.6% increase for the year – but this is playing with
numbers yet again! In fact, the average over 12 months
would be 3%...
So, for a Quadrant worker on £350/week, he/she would
be only £10.50 better off per week – not enough to cover
our weekly bus fare!

WHO NEEDS “CHANGING”?
We've heard the new RM chairman Keith Williams telling us
that in order to face the “significant challenges” of the
business, “we need to keep changing”... Like him?? This
fat cat has been the CEO and Chairman of British Airways,
Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of John Lewis, Non-
Executive Chairman of Halfords and was recently reviewing
the state of the railways for transport secretary Chris
Grayling! Apparently, top shareholders are worried he'll be
“overworked”... As if any of these top managers had any
real work to do!

INSATIABLE FAT CATS
Obviously, when they call for “change”, what these bosses
are after are new ways to squeeze more profits out of us.
These fat cats have accumulated £4bn in profits from our
blood, sweat and tears since RM was privatised, so time for
us to get them to pay our due!

PREDICTABLY SHAMBOLIC
Whether we want to or not, we're forced to see the RM
share price sink like a stone from the shop floor screens –
by 60% in the past year! And of course, RM made sure we
couldn't sell them while they were still up... So, isn't it about
time we got rid of not only the shares, but also the
shareholders and the bosses altogether?

THE SOONER THE BETTER
Of course, managers on Processing would claim that the
re-sign is now up and running... Only that it isn't! Many of
us are still waiting to be trained on our new duties. The
training to use the sorting machines is taking yonks! But of
course, when there are so few of our mates assigned to
train us, how could anything in this place go smoothly?

THE “RESERVE” ARMY
It's unbelievable that so many reserve duties were created
in Processing. We've even heard that managers had to
add reserve duties to the re-sign because there weren't
enough workers to cover the work! Yes, managers have
trimmed us to the bare bone, created gaps everywhere and
now they expect reserves to fill the gaps?!

THAT'S OUR RIGHT
The ink hasn't dried yet on the re-sign sheets... Yet we're
told on Processing to cover for all sorts of duties that have
nothing to do with what we've signed for. We know RM
amended the 318 to make us all flexible and to cover any
work, any time, anywhere. But they haven't got rid of our
right to tell managers where to go and jump!

WHAT'S THE PLAN??
How come we drivers still don't know what's going to
happen with RM's artics in HMP? We know RM would want
to stop using them in here at some point to save on the
Ultra Low Emission Zone charge... So what's RM planning
to do with our jobs?! We need answers now!

NO TO TWO-TIERS!
Here in the canteen, we're set to have some newcomers
soon – and we'd like to say welcome! But we heard that in
the new pay agreement, sick pay will be worse for new
starters... And under what pretext? Because “the business
had indicated that current levels of sick absence cause
significant operational and financial difficulties”(!!)
So, once new starts have been here for a year, they are
entitled to 2 months full sick pay, 2 months half, and after 2
years, 3 months full pay, 3 months half... And we're being
recommended to vote for the creation of 2nd tier? Why
should we?

ANTI-BEE VACCINE?
Oh dear, we've seen the Buzzy Bee busy giving advice to
managers on Earlies and Nights... on how to get “the
workload cleared on time”... We hope that the Bee's virus
isn't going to infect other managers, otherwise we're
definitely going to get sick... and in need of good fresh air
outside.

What machines does MP have (I'd assume that they'd have at least 5-6 CSS machines). MP have to book training courses, just like any other MC (or MPU if for CSSs)

Where have you been for the last 15-20 years? I've worked for RM for nearly 15 and there's always been in that time on everyone's 318 a bit that reads something like "or as directed"

It would be handy to see marked on a map where MP is and where each DO it covers are located. I wonder if a move to a new build outside the Ultra Low Emission Zone could be in the pipeline
