11/04/2018 Mount Pleasant Bulletin

Hi there, here's the bulletin of the 11th of April. You'll find attached the entire bulletin as well. Comments welcome as usual!

THE DONKEY AWARDS
This is sinking very low! After the RM/CWU "joint”
this and “joint” that agreement, we've got their "joint"
little promotion video in the CWU's Facebook page!
RM's chief operations officer Sue Whalley was
specially invited by Terry Pullinger to tell us the
wonders of the new "partnership"… TP's nodding
after every empty phrase uttered by this manageress
must have left him with a painful strain of his neck
muscles!

WHAT’S THE MEANING OF “TRUMPED”?
Yes, we won’t be surprised if we start receiving
tweets at 2am from “#terryandsue”. Not that we
even have twitter accounts, of course.

CRYSTAL, CHINA, OR SILVER?
But more seriously, how can the union platform be
used by a top manager to tell us "the company has to
change" when we know she means "get used to
cuts"?! Referring to this lovely video, Terry Pullinger
tried to save face by saying "this isn't some sort of
love-in"… Yep, this is more serious. It’s already the
wedding anniversary…

CAN WE PUT THE MILK BACK IN THE BOTTLE?
Some of us talk about leaving a union like this. We
ask: where is true unionism, which clearly and without
any weakness, defends our interests? Couldn’t
120,000 of us have fought - and won - together?
Why did we not even try? 89% strike vote?!
Yes, but then again, this isn’t the first sell-out.
Remember 2013?

IN OR OUT, OUR ENERGY IS REQUIRED!
Ok, so that’s what we need to talk about. Shouldn’t
“union” mean “collective fight”? If so, how can we
afford to sit on our bums while someone else talks our
fight away?! What do we do to prevent this from
happening in the future? We’ll have to figure this out
(by meeting together) at local level - putting in the time
& effort required...

DRAGGING THEIR FEET
We couldn't believe our eyes when we opened our pay
slips last Thursday and realised the bosses hadn't yet
bothered to increase our pay, let alone pay what they
owe us since April 2017!! Now we see that the
promised payment date is the week commencing 30th
April. That should also include the back-pay. Minus
tax...

CAMEL'S BACK WON'T STAND MUCH LONGER
Yes, the money won't get into our bank accounts
much before the 4th of May… So what about getting
the interest that RM has built up out of what it owes
us?

AS USUAL TRYING TO DIVIDE US...
This must be a joke! We've heard management in
HMP saying the agreement isn't fair… only, for these
clever minds, it is unfair because our part-time mates
are getting a tiny bit more pay rise thanks to the
shorter working week?? Of course, the few extrapennies
won't allow our PT mates to make ends meet
- managers' petty attempt to divide us on this won't
work. But we don't mind talking about "fairness"!
Like the bonuses that managers make on our backs?

HUSH MONEY: BUT IT WON’T KEEP US QUIET
Anyway, one real injustice in this agreement is the fact
that part-timers weren’t all given the immediate option
of full-time. These few pennies are pure guilt-money -
when what we need is a full-time wage!

WE SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING
Yuk. Managers keep breathing down the necks of
those of us on light duties. Now there’s talk of
"modified duties"; asking us to do a first 1hr on
packets. Next we hear they want us to do 2hrs…
then 3hrs and then what? Until there are only heavy
duties?

MODIFIED NAMES
And of course, managers say they met us to tell us all
about “modified duties” Met us? When? Where?
And even if they had, do they think we would have
agreed to this? They can introduce modified duties,
inverted duties, upside down duties, or whatever they
want to call them, the work on packets won't be done
without new hands!

OFF THE FLOOR!
With all this talk about pay agreements, how about a
decent pay rise for cleaners? We’re getting left way
behind - and we started on the floor as it was... We
don’t mind cleaning it, but our pay shouldn’t be on it.

NEW BOSS RICH-BACK?
Apparently Moya Greede will soon step down after 8
years of excellent service to RM's big shareholders -
including making sure RM was privatised! She won't
have to try to make ends meet on Job Seekers
Allowance tho' - shareholders will show their gratitude
with several zeros in their goodbye pay-out!
