Once mail reaches the inward MC it's ALL 1st Class. The time difference between 1C and 2C is built in to it's handling at MCs. 1C gets processed the evening it arrives (Day 1) at the outward MC, gets sent and is processed by the inward MC and is delivered in the morning (Day 2). 2C gets processed during the morning (Day 2) and is processed by the inward MC during the night of Day 2 and is delivered on Day 3.

Well You live & learn SP. :thumbup When we get it we class First & Second class simply by the Stamps, or the "1" or "2" stamped on it. We're told just to just take First Class but normally you'll have a 1st Class Stamped letter and several 2nd, or DSA (which I can never work out which class they are) in the same slot so you're going to take them as well. In reality you don't save a lot of time by Streaming, it's more useful for Rurals were they're not going to be travelling up some farm track with only a Tool Catologue. :cuppa

Locally if we know for certain that we're going to fail, quite often manual letters and flats will get sacrificed first and the staff from there moved onto Tracked and packets. What's the first thing that gets sacrificed in DOs if you're certain that you're going to fail (before Coronavirus decimated the staffing in all types of office)?

Not sure about that now. Virologist on BBC News talking about Tigers, Cats, Dogs and other animals. Air on the side of caution....

Typical day for me is 33155 steps(15 miles) from start in office to finish in office. My first letter is 10 mind from office

Worst Tuesday in ages. Not helped by a load of yorks of packets turning up that the MC had failed the day before.

Stupidly busy today. Been fairly upbeat through most of it. But I've had about 10 customers today moaning about how they were expecting a parcel and when I explained the situation they just moaned even more. Ffs

Had them yorks actually failed or had they just run out of room on the lorry the day before?

Not enough sorters at the MC we were told.

Might also be partly from having to keep 2m away from each other, possibly meaning they can't have as many packet setups as they would have for the volume of work

What a cyclist thought of a Royal Mail van driver today. (Clue: F**king w**ker!") :cool

That cyclist was obviously only out for his ONE HOURs exercise on his bike. :whistle

He doesn't appear to be one of those MAMILs that seem to treat this Lock Down as an excuse to be out for hours at a time riding around the countryside.... taking advantage of the lack of traffic, to build up their stamina. He obviously doesn't take his cycling that seriously .... judging by the hill he chooses to tackle .... the fact he's wearing Clip Ons .... and he gots his Pro Cam Running!

Sorry if I sound prejudiced against "Professional Cyclists" .... But I am, they're a pain in the arse around here. If you're delivering Rurals you'll get stuck behind a Peleton as it creeps up a steep hill, and can't get past them for miles sometimes. Just as bad if you're just trying to get somewhere Off Duty..... 21st Century traffic reduced to the speed of a Bicycle FFS!

Perhaps the Postie had finally managed to get past a bicycle creeping up the other side of the hill? TBH that looks like a pretty narrow road anyway. :cuppa

Before CV we would just use the Over Running Procedure, and probably get a couple of roads taken off us. Since CVs hit we're Double Lapsing, and expected to take All the Lapsing. The DOM wants us to Stream our own duties to just the Specials .. Tracked... and 1st Class Letters & Packets. TBH in the past we've had very few Failures, and haven't needed to Cull the mail at all. I believe it's mainly due to having a large proportion of "Old & Bold" Posties who never like to let their customers down, and generally take everything .... even if it's heavy. TBH we've only got a few "Monster" Duties and most are Do-able (in a normal situation) :thumbup

Since Privatisation it's been a hard struggle to try and convince everyone that they should be using the Over Running Procedure, Taking Breaks & Not doing any FREE work .... it's an uphill struggle. :cuppa

TBF our office has made a lot of changes to help with our safety including late starts to reduce numbers in office. As for letters still getting a s**t load. Parcels overwhelmed with them. On good note most customers are happy. More I can say for a well known supermarket that wanted to stop me using the toilet.

why are we seeing this guy turn up on here again ? hes clearly some local nutter and has a vendetta against anyone who causes his wayward biking swerving all over the place to actually get him on the side of the road.

Yes, his YouTube account sure has a few clips of him avoiding collisions while he's cycling. Perhaps he lost his car license and has had it in for drivers ever since.

Funniest thing I've seen recently was a cyclist slowing right down to negotiate a roundabout .... waiting to let a car past ..... slowed down so much he didn't have time to twist his foot out of his clip ons ..... and he just fell over sideways onto the verge! :left: Luckily it was a grass verge so he didn't hurt anything ... apart from his pride. :cuppa

Today was one of the worse for parcels that ive seen in a long time. Its like we have come back from a weeks strike. Ended up with 4 packet bags on a HCT route. Total nightmare.
Still ALL the mail went out. There was no streaming at all. Ended up cutting 1/3 rd of the frame.

Next week is going to be hell for parcels. :pray
