Reps at Bridgwater, Somerset secured an assurance from local Royal Mail management that serious negotiations will be held over the return to work of fellow postal member Andrew Mootoo, who hasn't been allowed to work since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 18 months ago.

Andrew was kept on sick leave so long that his pay was stopped. Members at the delivery office staged a walkout.

Bob Gibson Assistant secretary Bob Gibson said afterwards: "It was action taken by our members in support of a colleague who in their opinion was not being treated fairly or with dignity and respect. It was a human response to an unacceptable situation.

"Employers are always seeking more productivity from workers, without considering the human factor, the worker's age, the weather conditions and the intense heat. We need to intervene before it's too late, reducing working hours and the load carried by workers, because it's impossible to sustain the rhythm they're forced to work at for many years."

I'm surprised RM allowed Andrew so much time off without a response to get back to work even if it was seated ie Bristol MC sorting letters ??
