Mail hidden in trailers, managers allegedly rigging research to give a false impression about the efficiency of deliveries, and DOM's ticking boxes that everything is ok in the morning, but failing to untick them when deliveries fail or are uncompleted.
Welcome to the new and improved 'there's not much mail anyway and we need to cut more jobs' Royal Mail.
FIVE managers at Edinburgh Mail Centre have faced disciplinary action following an internal inquiry into the discovery of tens of thousands of undelivered letters found dumped inside a lorry trailer reports The Edinburgh news.
Bundles of post were found in the back of an articulated trailer parked in the yard of the Edinburgh Mail Centre in September.
Sources say that two of the managers have been dealt with and kept their jobs, while two more are appealing against the inquiry's findings and one case remains outstanding to be decided next week.
We previously reported on royalmailchat from some of our members last September that they have allegedly been falsifying figures for mail traffic, altering audit figures after the audits had been done, and encouraging delivery office managers to also cook their books traffic figures at nearby delivery offices as well.
It is understood that independent auditors visited the mail centre in Edinburgh last year to examine their books and discovered tens of thousands of letters had been undelivered.
Computers were also taken away from the facility for closer inspection.
The Mail claims Royal Mail managers have discovered the names and addresses of a panel of people used to measure the efficiency of postal services by Research International UK.
The scam apparently originated in Scotland, but has appeared to have been used by managers in other parts of the Royal Mail.
Staff sift through undelivered mail at the end of the day to ensure any intended for the panelists could be delivered straight away.
The con which is believed to have started 4 years ago is thought to have involved opening and re-sealing some of the mail to identify the name and addresses of panelists, and post boxes which were allowed to be emptied early were kept an eye on and emptied at the correct time.
Basic salaries for the small group of three managers who drove the scheme were around £100,000. There was a 100 per cent bonus scheme in place that allowed them to effectively double their income by hitting performance targets.
All the boxes are ticked in the morning but cut offs, failures and work left in the office, including DSA are never reported.
If these managers perhaps grew a pair, then the figures that the 'accountants' get at the top would be a completely different story.
With managers under so much pressure and the 'if you can't do it i'll get someone in who can' attitude from senior managers who can blame them for doing it.
But there's no doubt that the figures Royal Mail produce about efficency and targets met,is a complete sham.
