Dave ward has written to Royal Mail HR Director Dale Haddon outlining our pay claim which is due on the 1st April, but in time honored fashion not a penny of it will be spent on easter eggs, but probably baubles and tinsel.
There is no doubt that this is going to drag on to record levels but the stance is that there certainly wont be a pay freeze!
The claim is asking for significant progress to be made towards the joint commitment to bring the basic wage up to £400 a week, towards achieving the 35-hour week, an improved job security package and improved family friendly policies.
Despite the recession and the fall in mail volumes Royal Mail still made a healthy profit, the pension defecit will probably be removed, large savings will be made on their modernisation programme which frees up money to fund new machinery, and that's without the £600M not already spent.
The letter argues that our claim has to be seen in the context of all of this.
While not everything would fall in place in one hit,the CWU feels that advances could be made.
