The leech that is TNT seems to be moving fast towards the dodgiest postal operator in the world award.
Not only have they scammed the delay in opening their postal market in their own country, and stopped the minimum wage for postal workers in Germany, they have now been forced to pay back tens of millions of pounds in unpaid tax and have admitted that its staff acted illegally.
TNT has admitted that it had to start an internal investigation that led to the discovery that "illegal acts have taken place". However, it insists that any malpractice is historic, has been dealt with and that the integrity of past and present board members is beyond reproach.
The same sources suggested that TNT carried out a similar inquiry into its European tax affairs in countries including Germany, Belgium and Holland. The company has confirmed these further investigations, but will not say if any similar settlements were made or what disciplinary action was taken.
It reads: "To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether Revenue and Customs has imposed any financial penalty on TNT for tax irregularity in the past 10 years?"
We want to introduce stability into the Royal Mail and this is definitely not a company which would make the Royal Mail a better place to work."
